WABIM 2025 – MKIDN VERIFICATION COMMISSION KW3 – ARCHIVING and DIGITISATION AT COMPLETION

Dear All,

As we approach the end of the year, we are also nearing the completion of our tasks within this year's edition of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage's WABiM 2025 Programme.

This time, with pleasure and satisfaction, we report on the final work on archiving and digitisation of the last part of an enormous (considering our archive) collection of personal files of former soldiers of the Polish Home Army – the collection of Verification Commission No. 3 (KW3).

As part of the work, we have verified the already archived part of the fond and archived a further group of documents that has patiently been awaiting its turnover the past years. The records have also been almost entirely digitised: scanned, OCR processed and converted into multi-page PDF files. These files have been populated with metadata and added to our PDF index – a full-text search engine available on the local LAN.

The documents are currently being repackaged into new, acid-free envelopes and boxes, which the Trust received a few years ago (free of charge) from the Head Office of State Archives. (Thank you!)

The new, complete archival inventory contains approximately 21 thousand records/archival units and will be made available in Excel and PDF formats on our website by the end of this year. BTW, we plan to add it to ZOSIA, the Polish national archival data base… (Watrz the space!)

Thus, the largest of the three archival collections in our archive containing the personal files of AK soldiers, will be make available to the general public soon.

We hope that this will be useful not only to researchers and historians but also to genealogists and all those seeking traces of the past of their relatives, friends, and acquaintances.
